What to Expect in Your First Gravity Colonic Session

If you’ve decided to try a gravity colonic, you might be curious about the process and what to expect during your first session. Whether you’re looking to improve digestive health, clear your skin, or simply experience the benefits of a deeper cleanse, gravity colonics can be a powerful tool for supporting your body’s natural detoxification processes. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps of your first session and offer tips for making the experience as comfortable and beneficial as possible.

What is a Gravity Colonic?

A gravity colonic is a form of colon hydrotherapy that uses the force of gravity to gently introduce with warm, purified water into the colon. The water softens impacted waste, allowing it to be flushed out of the body. This process is designed to remove toxins, gas, waste, and support the body’s natural detox mechanisms. Unlike other pressurized systems, gravity colonics rely on the natural force of gravity to deliver water into the colon, offering a gentler and more relaxing experience.

Preparing for Your First Gravity Colonic Session

1. Hydrate Well:
In the days leading up to your session, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water helps to soften stool and supports your body’s natural detoxification process. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to ensure you’re well-hydrated going into your session.

2. Avoid Heavy Meals:
While there’s no need for any extreme preparation, it’s advisable to avoid heavy, greasy, or processed foods and alcohol within 24 hours of your session. A light meal that’s easy on the digestive system will help you feel more comfortable during the procedure and stop eating 2 hours prior to your session.

3. Wear Comfortable Clothing:
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily remove from the waist down when it’s time for the procedure. Your colonic session will take place in a private, relaxed setting where you’ll be provided with a towel and disposable sheet to cover up.

During Your Gravity Colonic Session

1. A Comfortable, Private Setting:
When you arrive, we’ll spend the first ten minutes or so of your first session reviewing your health history and wellness goals, and answering any questions you may have. You’ll then use the restroom to empty your bladder, remove your clothing from the waist down, and use the provided towel to cover up. You’ll then make your way to the treatment room where you will remove the towel and lay on the treatment table on your left side, covering your lower body with a disposable sheet. Our colonic room is a calming, quiet space that helps you feel at ease throughout the process.

2. The Insertion Process:
The procedure begins with the insertion of a small, lubricated tube (called a speculum) into the rectum. This is a quick and painless step, and your therapist will guide you through it to ensure you’re comfortable. You may feel slight pressure or a mild sensation of fullness as the tube is positioned.

3. The Flow of Water:
Once the speculum is in place, warm, purified water begins to flow gently into your colon under the influence of gravity. As the water enters your colon, you may feel a sense of fullness, mild cramping, or a pressure in your abdomen. These sensations normal and usually dissipate quickly as the water flows and begins to soften and loosen any waste in the colon.

4. The Release and Cleansing Process:
As the water flows through your colon, your body will naturally begin to release gas and waste. Your therapist will control the flow of water and manage the pressure, ensuring that your body is not overwhelmed. You may experience several cycles of water intake and release during your session, with your therapist using a gentle abdominal technique to help facilitate the release of gas and waste.

Throughout the session, your therapist will monitor your comfort level and adjust the water flow as needed. The goal is to ensure a gentle, effective cleanse without causing undue discomfort or exhaustion to the body. The colonic session itself will typically last between 30 to 45 minutes.

5. The Removal and Completion Process:
Once your session is over and your body has sufficiently released, your therapist will remove as much water left in the colon as possible. While laying on your side, always completely covered with a comfortable sheet, your therapist will gently remove the speculum from the rectum and leave the room. You will then remove the sheet, get up and cover yourself up again with the towel. You will make your way back to the restroom where you will use the bathroom once more to empty the remaining water and waste. Feel free to relax and take as much time as needed on the toilet following your session. Once you feel complete, you will get dressed and your session is over!

After Your First Gravity Colonic

1. Post-Colonic Care:
After the session, you may feel lighter, more energized, and even a little more relaxed. However, it's common to feel a mild sense of fullness, slight cramping, or the urge “to go” for some time following your session as your body continues to adjust and release any remaining waste. It’s important to rest afterward and care for your body with light foods and sufficient hydration.

2. Rehydrate and Nourish:
To support your body in the detox process, make sure to drink plenty of water after your session. This helps flush any remaining toxins from your system. Many clients also find that adding electrolytes to their water and eating light, nourishing foods—such as soups, salads, or smoothies—helps their body adjust more smoothly post-colonic.

How Will I Feel Afterward?

Many people feel a sense of increased energy, mental clarity, and physical lightness following a colonic. You may also notice improved digestion and better regularity in the days following the procedure. Some people experience a temporary sense of fatigue or mild bloating as their body continues to release toxins.

We highly recommend people to have a series of colonics for optimal benefits. A first session is often a gentle introduction to the process, and multiple sessions can be beneficial for those looking to achieve more significant detoxification or digestive health improvements.

Things to Keep in Mind for Future Sessions

While most people find their first gravity colonic experience to be positive, everyone’s body is different. Some may need more time to acclimate to the procedure, while others may notice more immediate results. We highly recommend a series of sessions, spaced out over a few weeks, to achieve optimal benefits.

Conclusion

A gravity colonic session is a safe and natural way to help cleanse your body, improve your digestive health, and promote overall well-being. While your first session may be a bit new or unfamiliar, it’s a relaxing and restorative process that can leave you feeling lighter, more energized, and more in tune with your body.
